Peoria Riverkeeper wins Making Waves Award in 2025

Peoria Riverkeeper has graciously been awarded the Making Waves 2025 award at this years Clean Water Celebration hosted by the Sun Foundation. We were thrilled to be able to teach a streaming class at the celebration which covered sustainability, conservation, and stormwater management.

We are a Non-Profit Organization and licensed member of the global Waterkeeper Alliance movement, established exclusively to protect the Illinois River watershed from the numerous threats it faces today. Using legal advocacy, independent state-accredited testing, and you, the people, we will continue to impact real, measurable improvements in the quality of our water in our beautiful river and it’s tributaries.

Our Services

From our community cleanup events, to public education, and engaging with our youth at school programs, we find many ways to promote awareness and involve EVERYONE in the importance of protecting our water sources.

We use state-accredited practices and laboratories to establish long-term water quality monitoring programs, tracking threats and the progress of our impact in real time

The federal Clean Water Act was established to hold polluters accountable and achieve sustainability for companies that pollute natural water bodies. We act as a representative of our water and step in when entities operate outside of federal and local regulations

Pollution and industry often target low income neighborhoods and areas for their operations. This is because these communities have less of a voice and influence to protect themselves and the natural resources around them. We engage with community leaders of low income areas andindigenous communities ensuring they have a voice in protecting these resources.
